What is used to color the shampoo and conditioner bars?Updated a year ago

Our Shampoo and Conditioner bars use a variety naturally derived coloring.

  • Vanilla Coconut: Mica, Iron Oxides, Titanium Dioxide, Silica.
  • Sweet Sandalwood: Iron Oxides.
  • Citrus Sun: Mica, Bismuth Oxychloride, Iron Oxides
  • Cool Breeze: Ultramarines
  • Wild Lavender: Manganese Violet
  • Simple Fresh: Chromium Oxide Greens

All of our naturally derived coloring are either synthetically made/nature identical, or naturally mined in the USA.

The majority of our colorants are natural identical. This means that the natural components were made in a lab yet have the same natural makeup as the original natural resource. The material doesn’t have any synthetic components, but was made in a lab instead of extracted. The nature identical coloring will biodegrade in the same way the coloring would if it was mined, since it’s the same base makeup.

It’s a similar idea to lab-grown diamonds; it’s still a diamond at it’s core, just synthetically made in a way that avoids any potential labor or mining concerns in other countries.

We chose a mix of nature identical and naturally mine ingredients for the best outcome of product performance, product safety, and sustainability.

Customer’s tend to worry most about Titanium Dioxide, which is present only in our Vanilla Coconut bars. Titanium dioxide is most controversial when present in nanoparticle form, as these very small molecules could pass through various physiological barriers and enter the body. Our titanium dioxide molecules are not large enough to even be absorbed by your skin. The EU has banned titanium dioxide in food and aerosol formats, considering the ingredient could be ingested. Since our product format (rinse-off shampoo and conditioner format) has no opportunity to be ingested, the minuscule use of titanium dioxide shouldn’t pose a risk to you or your health since it’s rinsing off of your body immediately and the molecules are too large to be absorbed into your skin anyway.

The use level of color in our bars (less than 1%) complies with regulations on the use of the product in cosmetic coloring in the USA and EU. If you prefer an option that doesn’t contain any fragrance or color, then our unscented bar would be ideal for you.
